There is a 3.5 meter general purpose telescope and a survey specialized 2.5 meter Sloan Foundation telescope. The telescopes have distinct purposes in the service of their constituencies. 0 0 10095720 8111158 The 3.5 meter telescope benefits the research faculty, graduate andundergraduate students, and public outreach programs of each memberinstitution. Using innovative remote software, astronomers can operateand collect data from anywhere in the world. The telescope has a suiteof cameras and spectrographs that serve a wide variety of scientificendeavors, resulting in more than 50 refereed science results beingpublished each year. There is an active outreach program at theobservatory and at member institutions.The 2.5 meter telescope, which operates the SDSS-IV survey projects,had a productive year. The ongoing SDSS-IV project is a collaborationof more than 60 institutions and 600 astronomers. The primary foci ofthe survey this year were the on-going operations at Apache PointObservatory and the beginning of observing at Las Campanas Observatory in April 2017. ARC reimburses the organizations for their compensation. Form 990, Part I, Line 6, Volunteers: The volunteers are the independent board members. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 6 ARC is a consortium consisting of eight member universities. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 7a Each member of ARC has two representatives on the Board of Governors, who are appointed by the member institutions' academic administrations. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 7b Members have approval rights in accordance with Title 24 of the Washington non-profit corporation act. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11b Each member of the Board of Governors is given a copy of the Form 990 prior to its submission. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c All Board members and officers of ARC are covered by a Conflict of Interest Policy. There are bi-annual reviews of the individual Conflict of Interest statements by the governance committee, which determines whether a conflict exists. All statements are kept on file. Board members are expected to disclose conflicts as they may arise on the honor system, with the oversight of the governance committee. If a conflict exists or arises during the course of the business, the governance committee investigates and determines any action to take in accordance with the policy. This may include a member being prohibited from participating in the deliberations and decisions with respect to the transaction. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, line 19 ARC makes governing documents available to the public upon request. Form 990, Part XI, Line 8, Prior Period Adjustments: The 2016 audited financial statements were finalized after the 2016 tax return was filed.
