This organization serves youth and families largely from a disadvantaged background with a focus on providing youth participants with the skills necessary to succeed in their schools, homes, and communities. We focus on building youth leaders by exposing them to a curriculum of leadership development sessions and activities in addition to providing them with educational exploration activities on local college campuses. Our participants work with a volunteer staff of mentors made up of college students and community members to work through our curriculum and to build a peer network of like minded youth leaders. During the year 2017 the SHIELD Mentor Program served 75 youth in the Greater Greensboro Community. Throughout the year, SHIELD hosted weekly Group Mentoring and Leadership Development Sessions with the youth in the East White Oak Community of Greensboro, NC. This year we are in the process of filing for a Solicitation License with the State of NC and were advised that we needed to also file a 990-EZ to include with that application. Moving forward we will now be filing a 990-EZ to comply with this State requirement.
