Three focus group inverviews, ten key informant interviews, and one survey were conducted in an effort to obtain the best information regarding the health needs of all individuals in the community. Focus groups were designed to represent various consumer groups of healthcare,including senior citizens, the physically challenged, and local community members. Key informants consisted of community leaders providing health services to Flathead County residents.In June 2015, surveys were mailed out to the residents in Flathead County. The survey was based on a design that has been used extensively in the states of Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho. The survey was designed to provide each facility with information from local residents regarding:- Demographics of respondents- Hospitals, primary care providers, and specialists used plus reasons for selection- Local healthcare provider usage- Services preferred locally- Perception and satisfaction of local healthcare Kalispell Regional Medical Center Part V, Section B, Line 6a: North Valley Hospital, Whitefish, MT Kalispell Regional Medical Center Part V, Section B, Line 11: As a result of the research and recommendations that appear in the Flathead County Community Health Needs Assessment 2015-2016 and further exploration with Kalispell Regional Medical Center (KRMC) administrators, medical staff and Board of Trustees, the following three prioritized strategies, adopted by the Board of Trustees on March 22, 2016, will guide KRMC's leadership in addressing the community's identified health needs over the next three years.1. Behavioral Health Education and Services. KRMC is committed to continuing the provision of mental health care through many existing services. To augment these services, KRMC will: a. Increase the number of behavioral health providers and expand facilities. b. Substance abuse education and services. Increase access and care of addiction related conditions for fetal/maternal patients and awareness of opiate and narcotic use. c. Suicide and depression education and services. Incorporate behavioral assessment rooms into ER expansion, provide dementia education to the community, and identify the needs surrounding postpartum depression and opportunities for support through education and services. d. Care coordination / advocacy and integration. Collaborate with other area behavioral health organizations and providers and participate in coalitions and committees. e. Transportation to access care. Expand telehealth offerings to include behavioral health, home health, and sexual assault assessments and support to outreach locations.2. Access to Medical and Dental Health Care. Assisting patients in navigating Kalispell Regional Healthcare is a priority for the organization. In addition, KRMC recognizes that lack of dental health care is a serious concern in our community and is committed to continuing support for access to medical and dental health care through many existing services. To augment these services, KRMC will: a. Affordability. Purchase equipment for use in the ER for emergency low income and indigent dental care. b. Care coordination and advocacy. Support efforts led by the local dental community, Shepherd's Hand Free Clinic, and Flathead City-County Health Department to enhance access to dental care. Initiate common electronic medical records systems between NVH, KRH, and clinics. c. Transportation and access to care. Employ an oral surgeon, provide for monthly dental hygienist services at Brendan House, relocate Northwest Family Medicine and expand provider staff, increase specialists in outreach locations, provide expanded pediatric specialty services, expand gastrointestinal facility, and evaluate cost effective alternatives to ambulance services for medical transport between medical providers.3. Healthy Lifestyles. KRMC has invested and will continue to invest in many programs and services to treat some of the most prevalent causes of death in our county. To augment these services, KRMC will:a. Prevention and wellness education and advocacy. Develop new web page with expanded information on wellness screenings and programs, provide health screenings for preventable diseases, collaborate with national organizations on prevention awareness messages and annual health observances activities, and expand occupational health services and facility.b. Care coordination/advocacy. Provide classes and activities that promote nutrition and healthy lifestyles, host community education programs and lectures on prevention and wellness, and Participate in the development of a Flathead Valley healthcare leadership steering committee to address population health.c. Active transportation. Expand community reach for the Diabetes Prevention Program through the use of telehealth. Kalispell Regional Medical Center Part V, Section B, Line 24: Kalispell Regional Medical Center charges the same for services regardless of an individual's insurance or non-insured status. KRMC provides further donations to benefit the broader community. Part III, Line 4: Cost Accounting was utilized to determine bad debt expense.Provision for Bad Debts: The Hospital provides for an allowance against patient accounts receivable for an amount that could become uncollectible, whereby such receivables are reduced to their estimated net realizable value. The Hospital estimates this allowance based on the aging of accounts receivable, historical collection experience and other relevant factors. There are various factors that can impact the collection trends, such as changes in the economy, which in turn have an impact on the unemployment rates and the number of uninsured and underinsured patients, the increased burden on copayments to be made by patients with insurance, and business practices related to collection efforts. These factors continuously change and have an impact on the estimation process.The footnote regarding bad debt expense is included on pages 15 through 17 of the organizations's financial statements. Part III, Line 8: Cost to Charge Ratio was utilized to prepare the FY 2017 Cost Report. Medicare totals provided exclude amounts reported under Community Benefit Programs. The organization provides care to the elderly and disabled at a reduced reimbursement to ensure all of the Community Members in Northwest Montana receive good quality healthcare regardless of age, disability, or means. Part VI, Line 2: KRMC identifies needs throughout the community by utilizing community representatives on KRMC Governance Boards, solicitation of ideas from community leaders and other members via the media and other forms of communication, and key staff aiding in identifying health care service area shortages. KRMC maintains a close relationship to the community by providing information and education about upcoming health care issues or changes at KRMC and solicits feedback from the community. Once needs are identified, the KRMC Board and Administration work to prioritize needs based upon the mission and values of KRMC. Part VI, Line 3: KRMC displays its Charity Policy on our website.
