Purchase of collection items are recorded in the year in which the items are acquired as decreases in unrestricted, temporarily or permanently restricted net assets depending on whether or not the assets used to purchase the items were restricted by the donors. Contributed collection items are not reflected in the financial statements. Proceeds from deaccession or insurance recoveries are reflected as increases in the appropriated net asset classes. The Museum's collections are made up of artifacts of historical significance, scientific specimens, and art objects that are held for educational, scientific, and curatorial purposes. Each of theses items are cataloged, preserved, and cared for, and activities verifying their existence and assessing their condition are preformed. The collections are subject to a policy that requires proceeds from their sales to be used to acquire other itmes for collections. Each member of The Museum shall be entitled to one vote at the annual meeting of The Museum and at other meetings of the membership. Form 990, Part VI, Line 12c: Explanation of Monitoring and Enforcement of Conflicts Annually the Board reviews the "Conflict of Interest Policy" and each Board member states in writing any conflict of interest. If a conflict occurs during the year, the Board member in conflict is responsible for stating the conflict at a Board or Committee meeting and the Board member does not participate in the discussion of vote on the issue.
