The Phoenix continued to grow programs and attendance in California, Colorado, Massachusetts and began programming in Boise, ID. Through pursuits like climbing, hiking, running, swimming, road and mountain biking, yoga, strength training, racing and other activities, they seek to help their members develop and maintain the emotional strength they need to stay sober. Phoenix members become part of a community that places value on the future rather than the past. Phoenix Multisport offers the opportunity for social and athletic networking that can lead to long lasting relationships with others who share a commitment to sobriety. Form 990, Part III, Line 4a, Description of Program Service - Continuation: Colorado update: The completion of the renovation and expansion project in Denver has allowed Phoenix additional space to provide concurrent programming to serve more individuals in recovery. It has also provided space to operate Per Ignem CrossFit, where dues help offset costs of Phoenix's free programs. The workforce development program continues to grow and team members are learning to become personal fitness trainers. Phoenix now has a recovery coach on staff to assist team members and a new youth and young adult program is being developed. Programs to bridge individuals transitioning from the criminal justice system into Phoenix programs continues to grow. California update: Free community programs continue to grow as well as partnerships with treatment centers. Individuals who have made a connection to Phoenix while in treatment know there is a sober community at Phoenix that will help support them once they leave formal treatment. Phoenix is searching for a larger space that will allow room for free programming and space for a Per Ignem gym which will help offset the cost of free community programs. Boston, Massachusetts: Phoenix purchased a new 11,000 square foot building after a successful capital campaign for Phase I and once renovated will provide a separate yoga studio, indoor climbing wall, open gym space and office space. This new space will help provide a home for many more needing recovery support in the New England region where it's been particularly hit hard by the opioid crisis. There also continues to be significant program expansion into the surrounding areas of Boston in working with the criminal justice program, treatment centers and youth. Boise, ID: Programs began in a new leased space in mid-July and the official Grand Opening was held in October and at year end 197 members were enrolled. National expansion efforts: The Phoenix launched its new website: https://thephoenix.org and added a tagline "Rise * Recover * Live" to its messaging. A new campaign "Stronger Than" began for the purpose of reducing stigma associated with addiction. Several new videos of individuals sharing their recovery stories were added to the website. Through both Phoenix's staffed and volunteer led events, Phoenix is now offering programming in California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and soon will be in Montana. Phoenix is in discussion with individuals in several other states and will continue expansion efforts in 2018. The 990 is then reviewed by the organization's board of directors prior to being filed with the IRS.
