The Fund pursues its purpose by direct engagement in the initiation, development, and implementation of novel research methods and technologies to further knowledge and practices of care and use of horses as domesticated animals whose existence is dependent on human guardianship as an historical relationship of permanent captivity.The Fund's principal direct activities are conducted by its volunteer board members and retained expert advisers through program initiatives of the Center for Contemporary Equine Studies (CCES), a supporting organization headquartered in Woodside, CA.During 2017, the Fund completed a multi-year legal investigation of the U.
