<Desc>Rebuilding Alliance is bringing the world together to rebuild Palestinian neighborhoods and recognize their right to plan and build on the land they own. Our Life-Affirming Vision: A just and enduring peace in Israel and Palestine founded upon equal value, security, and opportunity for all. Our Mission: Rebuilding Alliance is dedicated to rebuilding war-torn communities and bringing the world together to make them safe. Description* We believe that if our world is to meet the big challenges that face us at this time in history, we must make peace in Israel and Palestine.* We believe a childs life can be changed for good by rebuilding her/his home and neighborhood.* We believe construction is the best response to destruction, that village-centered rebuilding eases trauma, builds trust, strengthens peacemakers, and presses officials to keep those neighborhoods standing. The news of the year included the following: 1.Delivery of Backpacks and School Supplies: Rebuilding Alliance provided backpacks and school supplies to Palestinian children in Gaza in many of the most heavily damaged neighborhoods impacted in the 51 days of bombing in 2014. Executive Director Donna Baranski-Walker went to Gaza in December, 2015 to personally deliver the backpack kits to each of 3,888 children. 2.Delivery of Solar-powered Lanterns: Due to the failure of electricity in Gaza, non-governmental organizations in Gaza asked Rebuilding Alliance to arrange for donations of solar lights to allow the children to study and after testing the value of solar-powered Luci Lights with 50 families, Rebuilding Alliance launched our Brighten the Future of Gazas Children program. Following preclearance by both Palestinian and Israeli Customs, Rebuilding Alliances first pallet of 1980 solar-power Luci Lights arrived in April, 2016 and our Executive Director was there in Gaza to assist our three Non-Governmental partners to deliver the lights directly to children and families in need. One of our partners, the Gaza Community Mental Health Programme, had Donna accompany their social workers to meet with families in their care at their own homes to deliver the lights directly to them and so better understand their situation. Some families were living in tents, some in mobile homes (much like in areas post-hurricane), some in homes under construction, and others in the remnants of their half-destroyed homes. All Donna also presented a paper at the 6th International Conference on Mental Health and Human Rights in Gaza City.3.US Movement to Save Palestinian Village: As part of Rebuilding Alliances advocacy program, in September, Rebuilding Alliance brought three Palestinian children and their parents from West Bank villages at risk of demolition to Washington DC to brief the Senate on International Peace Day (Sep.21) The children from Susiya and Umm Al Kheir shared their Pinwheels for Peace, describing what peace means to each of them. They and their parents also met with the Congressional offices who had sent letters to the State Department and the Embassy of Israel to urge them to prevent demolition of their villages. Spanning about two and a half weeks, this tour also included visits to New York City for press interviews, speaking events with peace groups, and a visit to Connecticut for a speaking event at Wesleyan University. In October, the #OpenGaza speaking tour was held. This tour focused on childrens mental health and access to psychotherapy in the Gaza Strip, and Rebuilding Alliance brought two health professionals: Dr. Yasser Abu-Jamei, Executive Director of the Gaza Community Mental Health Programme, and Ran Goldstein, Executive Director of Physicians for Human Rights Israel. They travelled to six states including Washington, DC for speaking engagements at Universities and homes, and then held a Congressional briefing that was well attended. The third speaking tour of this fiscal year was in May, 2016 and centered on the rights of Palestinians in the West Bank, particularly Area C, to develop zoning plans for their communities and build on the land they own. Rebuilding Alliance brought Dr. Ahmad El-Atrash, Project Manager/Senior Urban Planner from UN Habitat, to Capitol Hill, where we held another Senate briefing and met with around 27 Congressional offices over the course of a week. We also met with the Overseas Private Investment Corporation and the World Bank Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency to request political risk insurance for a proposed finance program for construction of Palestinian home, womens centers, water systems, and agriculture project that are in Area C and are threatened by demolition. Fiscal Year 2016 again saw our projects listed in the top ten in the GlobalGiving.org Bonus Day Matching Grant Competitions. Rebuilding Alliance was also listed in the top ten Humanitarian organizations in the Silicon Valley Gives Bonus Day! Rebuilding Alliances goals for FY2017 build on both the program of sending solar-powered lights to Gazas children and advancing the US Movement to Save Palestinian Villages in light of an unabating crisis of demolitions in the West Banks Area C. To mitigate this crisis, Rebuilding Alliance filed a patent application and will begin development of a mobile app called Evincible, which will launch for both Android and IOS soon. Evincible will be created with the goal of engaging more U.S. constituents in an effective advocacy program to keep Palestinian villages standing, while simultaneously strengthening connections between constituents and their members of Congress. Note: this effort in no way focuses on legislation and therefore is not lobbying. In the coming year, Rebuilding Alliance will expand our Pinwheels for Peace program by hiring a social worker to use this simple project to aid trauma recovery. Another I Care About Peace tour to Washington, DC will take place on International Peace Day, the second of what we envision being an annual tour. This trip will again feature Palestinian children from villages at risk of demolition and their Pinwheels for Peace in presentations to members of Congress. To correct the online maps of the West Bank, Rebuilding Alliance will communicate with Apple and Google to request that they place the hundreds of omitted Palestinian villages on Apple Maps and Google Maps. We will also continue our efforts to secure Political Risk Insurance for Rebuilding Alliances Rebuilding to Remain affordable home construction finance program in Al Aqaba Village, West Bank, Area C. If Rebuilding Alliance can secure support for this program, Rebuilding Alliance will register and open a branch office in Ramallah.</Desc>
