The 2016-17 season included: Greg Banks' inventive, stripped-down spin on the classic tale of Pinocchio, praised by The Star Tribune for its "comic invention; Elephant & Piggie's We Are in a Play, based on The New York Times best-selling book series by Mo Willems and presented by the Kennedy Center Theater for Young Audiences; the world premiere of playwright Naomi Iizuka's The Last Firefly, a work developed through CTC's Threshold new play lab; Cinderella, our holiday show, directed by CTC Artistic Director Peter C. Brosius and starring CTC Acting Company member Traci Allen Shannon in the title role; a world premiere musical, Dr. Seuss' The Sneetches features book and lyrics by playwright Philip Dawkins and music by composer David Mallamud; and the return of CTC's Tony Award-nominated musical A Year with Frog and Toad, based on Arnold Lobel's beloved book series, featuring music by Robert Reale and book and lyrics by Willie Reale. 564981 0 240024 CTC's Neighborhood Bridges programs served students and classroom teachers in grades pre-K-5 this year through in-depth school residencies; community residencies and workshops; and professional development opportunities for educators and caregivers. This year, Neighborhood Bridges partnered with 35 schools, most of which are Title I-eligible with a majority of students enrolled in the free/reduced-price meal program. Additionally, Neighborhood Bridges provides embedded professional development for classroom teachers to train them in using theatre arts-based and culturally responsive teaching strategies to support student language and literacy development. Recognizing the opportunities and challenges of engaging our rapidly diversifying audience, CTC has made increasing diversity and inclusion across our organization a priority. This work is guided by ACT One, an institutional commitment to making our theatre a home for all families, directed by three words of action: Access, Connect, Transform. Recognizing that socioeconomic status is only one of many barriers, CTC also partners with organizations serving under-resourced communities (many of which also utilize the ACT Pass) to co-host 'welcome' events at the theatre. For example, this year we welcome members of the Latino Community to a free Latino Family Night, an event planned by CTC's Consejo Latino (Latino Council). A major goal of ACT One is to deepen relationships with key community organizations serving groups that have traditionally been underserved by theatre as a field, both by inviting community members into our space and by increasing CTC's presence in the community. 529895 0 588151 CTC's Theatre Arts Training program (TAT) provides instruction in storytelling, acting, dance, voice, directing, and playwriting for young people ages 2-18. In addition to sequenced classes during the school year, the program also offers summer and other school vacation camps for students at all skill levels; programming for homeschool groups designed to meet their educational goals; and, in order to increase geographic accessibility for students, classes and residencies at community centers, libraries, and events in cities like Woodbury, Shoreview, and Coon Rapids. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 4 The Governance Committee completed a large re-write of the Bylaws during FY17. Significant changes include: 1. Quorum. The number of directors required for a quorum was increased from one third to one half. The Board will not be allowed to take action unless at least half of its members are present. 2. Removal. The new Bylaws allow the Board to remove a director without cause by a simple majority vote. 3. Committee. The new Bylaws permit the creation of any number of standing committees, but contemplate the existence at all times of an Executive Committee, a Governance Committee, and a Finance Committee. Each is required to meet at least four times each year. The Managing Director and Artistic Director will be ex officio members of each of these committees, but will not have voting rights. 4. Committee Chairs. The new Bylaws make clear that the chairs of each committee are to be appointed by the Board Chair. 5. Indemnification. Former bylaws did not address indemnification rights.
