Policy advocacy requires a specific set of skills related to how and when to interact most effectively with federal, state and local elected and appointed officials and staff. Our track record of legislative and regulatory success is built on our capacity to analyze complex policy issues, to develop winnable policy alternatives that attract broad support, to implement effective media and communications strategies, and to build and sustain strong broad-based coalitions and maintain strategic alliances with other stakeholders on a statewide basis. Communications. Providing the strongest voice for Colorado's kids involves raising awareness about the challenges facing Colorado kids and families, helping the public understand how policy translates to tangible impacts on kids' lives, and building public support for solutions. Media - traditional and social, earned and paid - is an important means to this end. Our weekly electronic newsletter, KidsFlash, reaches more than 3,600 subscribers with issue updates, including periodic action alerts that identify advocacy opportunities. Community Engagement. It's About Kids (IAK) is our statewide network of child advocates (child care providers, educators, health care providers, community leaders, parents) active in 53 of 64 Colorado counties. IAK is led by a dedicated group of 70 volunteer community leaders. These IAK leaders establish and maintain relationships with policymakers and the media in their own communities and provide guidance to the Children's Campaign in a variety of ways. Our staff travels the state, including visiting IAK communities, to provide data presentations and advocacy trainings. Our annual Speak Up for Kids Day at the Capitol and Speak Up for Kids Institute events throughout the year helps grow the base and expertise of the child advocacy field in Colorado. Collaboration. We recognize that we provide the strongest possible voice for children in Colorado when we work in concert with and value the perspective of diverse partners in the advocacy field. The copy is delivered by email to each member with a notice that any questions or concerns should be communicated to finance staff. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c Each member of the Board of Directors and each key employee are required to sign a form which discloses both direct and family relationships with organizations and individuals who do business with the Colorado Children's Campaign. These forms are required on an annual basis and are monitored by the finance staff to assure that any possible conflicts are properly reported to the Board and that steps are taken to assure that the conflict does not negatively impact the Colorado Children's Campaign. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15 The Colorado Children's Campaign attempts to compensate its employees at or around the 75th percentile for their position in the Denver Metro market. Local published salary comparisons prepared by the Colorado Nonprofit Association and Mountain States Employers Council are used as reference for determining the local market salaries. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, line 19 The Colorado Children's Campaign makes its financial statements including annual audited financial statements and Form 990, available to the public by posting them on the Campaign's web site. Its governing documents and conflict of interest policy are available on request or available in person at the Campaign's corporate address, 1580 Lincoln Street, Suite 420, Denver, CO 80203. Form 990, Part XII, Line 2c The finance and audit committee has oversight of the audit and selection of the auditors. There has been no change in the process for selection of auditors or the oversight process for the audit.
