KA-Lite, our flagship open-source platform used for viewing and interacting with Khan Academy content, has been installed in almost 200 countries and territories, reaching an estimated 4.5 million learners. In 2017 we continued our work as a key technology provider and partner for educational initiatives operating in low-resource contexts all around the world. Major program service accomplishments include:1.We publicly released Kolibri, our new open-source application built to enable seamless authoring, peer-to-peer sharing, and engagement with a vast library of educational content from sources all over the web, all available completely offline, on low-cost devices. 2.In addition to the Kolibri learning platform we created an accompanying toolkit to help partners implement Kolibri and began development of a content curation tool, Kolibri Studio, to aid in authoring content specific to local contexts.3.Supported by funding from Google.org to help implement Kolibri, we introduced the Kolibri Hardware Grant Program which provides organizations a grant to purchase the hardware necessary for implementing Kolibri in formal schools, educational facilities, and in non-formal learning settings to reach both school-aged and adult learners.
