Violations of conservation easements are resolved on a case-by-case basis. Schedule D, Part II, Line 9 Gathering Waters records the purchase of easements as an expense in the year of purchase. No asset or liability is recorded in connection with easement purchases. Donated easements are not assigned a value in the accounting records. Schedule D, Part V, Line 4 Endowment funds held by Gathering Waters are intended to support an internship program. Distributions from endowment funds are used to help defray the cost of hiring at last one intern per year. Interns are usually students who intend to build a career in conservation work.
