Our scientists are working to understand how trisomy 21 leads to higher incidence of certain diseases (e.g. Alzheimer's disease, autoimmune disorders) and protects those same individuals with Down syndrome from other diseases (e.g. breast cancer and most forms of heart attack and stroke). Through our affiliate, The Sie Center for Down Syndrome at Children's Hospital Colorado, we are providing outstanding medical care to thousands of patients from 27 states and 7 countries. This outstanding medical care for patients with Down syndrome informs our research which in turn will improve the health and lifespan of our patients.
