Inner City Law Center provides free legal representation to low-income residents facing eviction or otherwise precariously housed. Our services enable many clients to remain in their homes, and for those who must move, it secures significant financial resources in the form of rent waivers or relocation assistance that often enables families to avoid homelessness. Last year, ICLC helped 3,071 low-income tenants and their children avoid homelessness and obtain more than $500,000 in relocation benefits. 852246 Healthy Homes: Since our founding, combating slum housing has been central to Inner City Law Center's mission. We secure compliance with the health and safety laws governing rental units and curb the unscrupulous practices of slumlords who prey upon some of Los Angeles' most vulnerable and marginalized residents. Last year, we recovered more than $4.8 million in damages for 403 clients living in slum housing, and forced slumlords to repair hundreds of housing units. 767758 Homeless Veterans Project: Inner City Law Center helps disabled homeless veterans apply for the healthcare and monetary benefits to which they are entitled because of their service. For veterans who are homeless, these benefits often bring the stability and independent living they need in order to receive consistent medical treatment and become housed. We have developed a particular expertise in assisting homeless women veterans who are survivors of military sexual trauma. Last year, we helped 388 veterans obtain income support, healthcare, and other benefits, recovering more than $3.7 million in retroactive awards and increased benefits income. 426792 Inner City Law Center's Benefits Advocacy Project provides training, technical assistance, and quality control to benefits specialists at seven partner organizations that are ending homelessness by enrolling people who are homeless because of a severe disability in Social Security and Veteran's Administration programs.
