We know that with close, individual advocacy & support, men, women & families experiencing homelessness achieve housing stability. 1 0 3388291 0 1022062 Family Housing - Families who are experiencing homelessness receive intensive case management, advocacy services, and subsidized rental housing. Most of the families we work with have major barriers to their future housing stability. Emphasis is placed on securing permanent housing and increasing life skills, parenting skills, education, and employment to assist in maintaining housing into the future. Uniquely, this program uses subsidized, supportive rental housing for families with children, both site-based and scattered-site. In fiscal year 2018 we worked with 288 families with 659 children. A major emphasis of the Family Housing Program is to break the generational cycle of homelessness by increasing positive family dynamics through experiential learning outings, reading-focused tutoring, educational advocacy for school-age children, and one-on-one mentoring for children K-8th grade. In the 2017 - 2018 school year, 87% of children improved their reading and literacy skills and 92% students demonstrated an increase in positive identity indicators. Our unique niche in the community is working with individuals and families whose prolonged periods of homelessness and precarious housing stem from challenges such as institutional racism, generational poverty, family violence, mental illness and chemical dependency. Simpson's commitment is to help participants start down the path to housing stability using the Housing First philosophy: provide people experiencing homelessness with housing quickly and then provide support services as needed. Our distinctive assets include respectful and dignified service centered on a commitment of participants' wellbeing, strong leadership, respected advocates and staff, a collaborative and adaptable approach, a dedicated corps of volunteers, and a mix of site-based and scattered-site housing. 872002 0 3835 Overnight Emergency Shelter is provided to 44 men and 22 women, including a bed, three meals, housing and benefit referral services, showers, laundry, a savings program, employment listings, as well as mental and physical healthcare resources. Shelter advocates work with shelter guests to attain permanent housing. A rapid rehousing advocate assists with placing shelter guests with income sources and limited barriers into housing. Thousands of hours of service are provided by volunteers. In fiscal year 2018, 682 men and 430 women received a bed at the shelter. 124 guests were moved directly from the shelter into stable housing by shelter and rapid rehousing advocates. 2641528 0 0 Single Adult Housing - In fiscal year 2018, Simpson Housing Services provided permanent, subsidized, supportive rental housing for a total of 234 single men and women who have been homeless long-term with a unique focus on the needs of single women. Intensive support and advocacy services are a key component of participants' success. We achieve this through two programs: Women's Housing Partnership and Opportunity Housing Partnership. The Women's Housing Partnership is a groundbreaking outreach program for women who face long-term-homelessness. Staff members work intensively with program participants to forge ongoing relationships that foster individual strength and support progress towards personal goals.Opportunity Housing Partnership is a collaboration between Simpson Housing Services, Aeon, and Resource Chemical and Mental Health to provide increased supportive services in two buildings in downtown Minneapolis. No individual shall continue to be a member of the Executive Committee who is not a director.
