Programs include advising landowners about wetland preservation, restoration, and management; an annual wetlands science conference; numerous workshops, field trips, and presentations; and distribution of a book, "My Healthy Wetlands," to help landowners care for their wetlands. Nearly 400 people attended and participated in WWA's 2018 wetland conference, "Wetland Resilience." In addition, WWA worked with partners in Mequon to identify opportunities for wetland protection and restoration; worked with the Village of Plover and local growers to restore river flows and conserve groundwater; and led an effort to study watersheds in northern Wisconsin to show the contribution of wetlands to flood mitigation. 249224 0 0 Public policy advocacy: In 2017-2018, WWA worked collaboratively to help local and statewide decision makers understand the importance of wetlands as solutions to the water quality and quantity issues that our communities are facing. We helped improve outcomes for wetlands by working with legislators to establish a state Wetland Study Council that will serve tp bring conservation and regulated interests together to help improve state wetland policy. Our work includes hosting field visits for state legislators to demonstrate how wetland protection and restoration can provide ecological and societal benefits. We have developed formal partnerships with several sportsmen's organizations (Sportsmen For Wetlands) to advance wetland education for local and statewide decision makers.
