The Organization has given more than 42,000 books to city students for reading activities in class and to enjoy at home since 2006. In 2018 the Organization provided more than 1,744 new books or magazine subscriptions to educators in city schools. At the end of the school year, these books are then given to students to take home to their home libraries.This program is primarily supported through contributions. 85531 The Spring for Music Opportunities program provides city students with opportunities to play, perform and excel in the field of music. The Organization collected and donated 344 musical instruments for city students in 2018, bringing the total number of musical instruments donated to 2,300 since the program launched in 2005. The Organization also supported music scholarships for summer music lessons, and the purchase of instruments so college-bound students can audition and receive scholarships. The Organization also supported the district-wide marching band in fundraising efforts to travel nationally to compete in competitions.This program is primarily supported through contributions. 89860 College Access: REF offered FAFSA Fest events for the fifth year. This is a series of four fall events and two spring events through which students and family members receive free help filling out and submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Organization also offered numerous smaller, in-school and community events supporting FAFSA completion. The Organization also offered training to community members to help complete the FAFSA at their events.Continued on Schedule O.The Organization this year collaborated with college counselors in the district to help students create their FSA ID, a username that is essential to filing the FAFSA. REF also supported 10th grade college visits for students and peer-to-peer informational programming about college. REF also managed an informational website to help students through each step of the college application process. This work is offered in concert with the organization's college access collaborative, Rochester College Access Network (RCAN). RCAN includes colleges and universities, community organizations, businesses and individuals.This program is primarily supported through contributions. 37527 1800 4969 The organization concluded its role in the Greater Rochester Health Foundation's Childhood Healthy Weight Initiative, as scheduled. Through June, REF supported consultants at three city schools. The goal of the program was to increase the percentage of 4 to 10 year olds in the city who are at a healthy weight by increasing healthy eating habits and physical activity.In addition, REF provides valuable field trip and other resources to students at Dr. Walter Cooper Academy School No. 10 and helps students discover the great outdoors with a club at Wilson High School. In 2016, the REF added the One Step Closer partner program. This program provides new sneakers to students in need prior to the start of school.
