To further our mission, we engaged in a year long process to develop a Strategic Plan that outlines transformative strategies, goals,and objectives for the next 5 years. We adopted a multi-pronged approach that employs programs in business recruitment & retention, marketing and promotions, design & infrastructure, and community support Business Recruitment and Retention:In addition to promoting Red Bank on line, on the air, and in print as a great place to open a business, RiverCenter spent countless hours behind the scenes reaching out to prospective business owners, showing them the town, and connecting them to realtors, building owners, business owners and movers and shakers in town. Once a business decided to move in, we helped smooth their transition by opening doors, answering questions, and creating a buzz in advance of their opening. In addition to recruiting new businesses, RiverCenter helped retain current businesses by updating our comprehensive "Handbook for Doing Business in Red Bank". The Handbook provides businesses with information on ordinances and regulations in the borough, promotional events, who to contact in different situations, how to start and expansion, and more. The Handbook is available on line or in print. Design & Infrastructure:With targeted dollars and programs we - Began a major streetscape improvement project to White Street and English Plaza. leveraging a zero interest loan from the NJDCA, we designed a $1.7 million project and are poised to begin construction in 2019. - Kept downtown sidewalks and curbsides litter free through the efforts of our two part-time sidewalk ambassadors - Beautified our streetscapes with seasonal blooms from April to November through our Horticulture Program, a partnership between RiverCenter, the Borough of Red Bank, and volunteers from local gardening clubs - Filled downtown streets with live music and visual artists to create a festive atmosphere and entertain our visitors every Saturday night and selected Thursday nights during summer and during the holiday shopping season through our Streetlife and Holiday Harmonies programs, with our own funding and with a grant from MonmouthArts - Festooned our streets with lights and holiday decorations to foster sales and holiday cheer - Reviewed and gave input on more than 50 construction proposals and worked with business owners and the borough to ensure facades and signage met guidelines. Marketing & Promotions Using a multi-model approach, we marketed the Red Bank business district to residents and neighboring communities, throughout Monmouth & Ocean counties, statewide,and into the tristate region. - Using consistent branding & messaging, we advertised in print publications, through digital media, on radio, and in out-of-home placements. - We distributed marketing collateral throughout the tristate region via a mass distribution company. - We printed and distributed targeting marketing pieces to help visitors and tourists find convenient parking, promote Red Bank's dining scene, spread the word about RiverCenter's mission, and promote the downtown business district. - We communicated extensively with customers via email and social media. - We managed and promoted the Red Bank gift card program, selling more than $27,000 and redeeming over $21,000 at Red Bank restaurants, retailers and service providers during 2018. - We spearheaded promotional events that brought tens of thousands of people into town and introduced them to our restaurants, retailers, and service providers. These included: Red Bank Wedding Walk, Red Bank Restaurant Week, International Beer Wine & Food Fest, Sunday in the Park with the NJ Symphony, Annual Sidewalk Sale, Guinness Oyster Festival, and a full complement of holiday events. Community Support: In 2018, RiverCenter distributed over $30,000 in cash donations and Red Bank Gift Cards to local charities.
