Quality- the affiliates began sharing best practices to work to lower the incidents of hospital acquired infections. Tele-Health Consultations- these consultations began running for tele-stroke, tele-neurology, and tele-pediatrics programs between Baptist Health and Southeast Georgia Health System. Disaster Planning- the affiliates implemented the applicable portions of their mutual aid agreements during Hurricane Matthew, which impacted the entire Coastal service area. Patients were transferred from areas of greater concern to safer facilities within Coastal. IT- The affiliates work focused on implementing technologies mutually agreed to for supply chain management, financial reporting (ERP), and payroll. These projects netted capital avoidance costs of $7 million by choosing a common platform for ERP. Supply Chain- The affiliates implemented contracts for supplies that created approximately $8 million in cumulative annual savings. (BHS) has two active Supplemental Executive Retirement Plans (SERPs). One SERP is for certain executives (Executive SERP) and the other is for certain BHS Vice Presidents (Vice President SERP). These SERPs are plans described in IRC Section 457(f). The present value of benefits under the SERPs accrues in each tax year during the executive's term of employment. SERP benefits are subject to forfeiture until the covered executive reaches retirement age. The following individuals accrued the present value of unvested benefits under the Vice President SERP for Calendar Year 2017: Carlton DeVooght, $29,622 and Timothy Groover, MD, $49,433. Form 990, Part V, Line 2a Number of Employees Coastal Community Health, Inc. does not pay employees directly. Baptist Health System, Inc. pays all salaries, and is reimbursed by Coastal Community Health, Inc. Form 990, Part VI, Line 15a Process to establish compensation of top management official Coastal Community Health, Inc. follows the executive compensation policy of Baptist Health System, Inc. (BHS), a related entity, BHS's compensation committee (made up of independent directors of BHS) engages annually a third party compensation consultant who provides a database composed of current data regarding compensation paid for each executive position by similarly situated tax exempt health systems in the country. These health systems are generally the same size as BHS, considering revenue and other appropriate indicators. The group of comparator companies that is derived based on the above stated parameters comprises the market. When the committee meets with such consultant, the consultant provides to committee members compensation target levels that are competitive with the market. Generally, the median of the market is targeted. The actual amount that health system executives receive as compensation may be higher or lower than the median, depending on the health system's and the individual's performance. The objective is to have a strong link between health system and individual performance and executive compensation such that if the health system and the individual perform at an optimal level, his or her compensation is in the higher range of the market . Conversely, if either the health system or individual performance is below expectation, compensation may be in the lower range of the market. The minutes of the annual compensation committee are recorded by the committee's compensation consultant and are approved promptly by the chair of such committee.
