Milford Regional has acquired the next generation in robotic surgical systems, the da Vinci Xi. This new, top-of-the-line leader in minimally invasive robotic surgery replaces the da Vinci Si, which the Medical Center introduced to the community in 2013. Since then, hundreds of patients in our community have enjoyed the many benefits of robotic-assisted surgery: fewer and smaller incisions, less pain, less blood loss, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery. The Xi brings robotic-assisted surgery to a whole new level with technological advancements that can be used for more complex types of surgeries that would otherwise involve large-incision surgery, longer hospital stays and post-operative pain. Milford Regional's expertise in robotic-assisted surgeries include bariatric, colorectal, general, gynecologic and urologic surgery. Experts in thoracic surgery will be joining in the upcoming year. Milford Regional's ultrasound services found a new home in diagnostic imaging with more space and greater privacy for patients in FY 2018. The new area expanded their footprint from two to four rooms, one of which is dedicated to vascular testing. Milford Regional expanded vascular services this past year with the acquisition of the Park Flow Lab, a top-of-the-line vascular system to perform arterial testing. This dedicated noninvasive vascular laboratory specializes in several tests that look for vascular diseases that may affect how well blood flows in the arteries and veins. The lab examines blood vessels throughout the body that feed major organs and tissue. These tests can help to diagnose many vascular conditions, including peripheral arterial disease (PAD), stroke and aneurysms. Milford Regional is committed to providing patients with the necessary tools to take control of their own health information. As a result, a new, enhanced patient portal, known as MyHealthLink, was launched in 2018 that provides greater access to your pertinent health information than our former patient portal. Available both on desktop and through a new mobile app, MyHealthLink makes accessing health information across our healthcare system easier in many ways: Secure access for all health information; review laboratory and diagnostic tests results dating back to January 1, 2011; track medications and appointment information; view discharge instructions; pay bills and view account details; and receive hospital news. As an accredited program, Milford Regional's Center for Weight Loss Surgery ensures patients receive a multidisciplinary program, not just a surgical procedure, which improves patient outcomes and long-term success. The accredited center offers preoperative and postoperative care designed specifically for severely obese patients. In addition, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts recognized Milford Regional Medical Center as a Blue Distinction(R) Center for Bariatric Surgery. Blue Distinction Centers are nationally designated health care facilities that show expertise in delivering improved patient safety and better health outcomes. Milford Regional's Fresh Start weight loss surgery program includes a team of professionals, including bariatric surgeons, nurse practitioners, dietitians, behavioral health counselors and physical therapists, all committed to walking with patients through the weight loss journey. To receive a Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery designation, a health care facility must demonstrate success in meeting patient safety measures as well as bariatric-specific quality measures, including complication and readmission rate for laparoscopic procedures in sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass and adjustable gastric band. A public presentation was made to the community for community input prior to the CHA being formally accepted and approved by the Milford Regional Board of Trustees. Milford Regional continues to work closely with its community partners in CHNA 6 to help address those needs identified in the CHA. The Office of Community Benefits is actively engaged with the Community Health Network Area (CHNA) and other community coalitions/committee focusing on substance abuse, access to services, interpersonal violence prevention, cancer prevention and nutrition/physical activity/wellness to address emerging health needs. Schedule H, Part VI, Line 3 Patients are informed of the availability of financial assistance by way of payment statements printed with financial assistance information. At the time of discharge from the Emergency department, uninsured patients are encouraged to meet with an on-site Financial Counselor. If unable to meet with a Financial Counselor at the time of discharge, the patients are given a screening letter that gives contact information for our financial assistance department. The day following any emergency room visit, a form is generated on each uninsured patient and sent to the Financial Counselors. Schedule H, Part VI, Line 4 Milford Regional Medical Center serves the healthcare needs of the residents of 19 communities in Central Massachusetts, spanning 3 separate counties: Worcester, Norfolk, and Middlesex. The Hospital's primary service area consists of Milford, Franklin, Bellingham, Northbridge, Whitinsville, Uxbridge, Blackstone, Hopedale, Medway, and Mendon, a population of 145,362 according to the 2010 US Census data. The Hospital's secondary service consists of Douglas, Grafton, Hopkinton, Holliston, Millis, Wrentham, Upton, Medfield and Millville, a population of 96,310. The population of the MRMC service area has grown almost 9% over the past decade as opposed to the statewide average of 3%. The residents of this region are primarily Caucasian, accounting for 93.6% of the population. Hispanics comprise 2.7% of the population, with Asians also at 2.7% and Blacks at 1.0%. The population is nearly even in terms of gender, with 51% females. The bulk of the adult population (71.6%) is between the ages of 18-54, slightly higher than the state percentage, which is 68%. There has been an influx of Egyptian, Central American and Brazilian immigrants to the area, most likely not represented in these totals, but estimated at several thousand additional residents.
