Our vision is to continuously increase in passion and artistic excellence and strength, acheiving national and international recognition as a creative force in dance. 0 0 818789 697852 During the 2017-2018 Season, Festival Ballet Providence produced eight programs, "Pippi," "The Widow's Broom," "Up Close on Hope Program 1," "The Nutcracker," "Director's Choice," "Up Close on Hope Program 2," "The Little Prince, and "The Little Mermaid." There were five World Premieres and four Company Premieres including a brand-new adaptation of "The Soldier's Tale" performed with a live chamber orchestra featuring musicians from the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra. The Company consisted of 27 full-time dancers, apprentices, and trainees that performed in three venues: Providence Performing Arts Center, The Vets, and its Black Box Theatre housed within its Hope Street location. Audience engagement and involvement efforts included open rehearsals, post-performance Q&A sessions, and volunteer opportunities backstage and front of house. The Company continued its mission to bring dance to the community with robust community engagement efforts including school-time performances of full-length ballets for its Discover Dance series; in-school lectures, demonstrations, and residencies; and free educational workshops in schools and libraries across Rhode Island. 545861 450346 During the 2017-2018 fiscal year, the Festival Ballet Providence School and related education initiatives provided professional and focused dance education for approximately 300 students in classes held regularly at its Hope Street Location. Sessions included 2017-18 Academic Year, Open Summer Camps and Classes, and Summer Dance Intensive Junior and Senior programs. Recurring observation weeks, parent conferences, and year-end exams allowed faculty and parents to monitor student development and technical progress. Students performed in their annual recital, Culmination 2018, at Rhode Island College. The Summer Dance Intensive program performed a free outdoor performance in collaboration with WaterFire that included an excerpt from "A Midsummer Night's Dream" attended by more than 10,000 audience members. Additionally, the Adaptive Dance Program provided therapeutic dance education for children with Down Syndrome. Students from the Adaptive program performed in the Company's annual production of "The Nutcracker" at PPAC.
