Within 72 hours of arrival, every shelter client meets with a Stephen Center caseworker to develop and implement a plan for success to emerge from homelessness and regain independence and stability. The shelter houses 32 men, 32 women and has five family units. The shelter provided 28,087 total nights of lodging in 2018 to 857 individuals (31 Families, 74 Children and 744 Adults), 100% living in poverty with an average length of stay of 32 days. The following conditions were self-reported by clients upon admission: Mental health (52%), alcohol/drug abuse (42%), chronic health conditions (28%), developmental disabilities (9%) and physical disabilities (45%). 1356945 0 1732259 The HERO Program (Health, Empowerment, Recovery, and Opportunity) building opened in July 2006 and is a CARF-accredited, 64-bed state licensed substance abuse treatment program assisting those who have made a commitment to overcome the life-destroying effects of drugs, alcohol and co-occurring mental illness. The facility was purposefully designed as a combination low-income housing and a substance abuse treatment center focusing on homeless and low-income individuals. In addition to inpatient services, HERO provides substance abuse evaluations, intensive outpatient treatment and juvenile outpatient treatment services. The treatment center is capable of housing 32 men and 32 women. The program provided 22,759 total nights of lodging in 2018 to 644 individuals (271 Residential; 247 Non-residential; 126 Juvenile Outpatient). 968568 0 405389 In 2015, Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) apartments became a part of the campus for the first time. PSH apartments comply with HUD Housing Quality Standards, and are designed to develop and provide housing and voluntary access to supportive services for people moving from homelessness to independent, supportive living. The opportunity exists to live in a stable environment, increase life skills and income, and gain control over decisions that impact personal and familial needs. There are 61 PSH units for rent to those who meet income and disability standards. Eight addition transitional living apartments provide supportive services for those transitioning from the inpatient treatment through HERO. PSH provided 23,393 total nights of lodging in 2018 to 81 individuals and children, 100% living in poverty with an average length of stay of 1.7 years.
