Schedule D, Part X, Line 2 The Internal Revenue Service has ruled that the University is a Section 501(c)(3) organization, exempt from Federal income tax under Section 501(a) of the Internal Revenue Code (the "IRC"). The University has been classified as a publicly supported organization under Section 509(a)(1) of the IRC and qualifies for the maximum charitable contribution deduction by donors. The University is also exempt from State of Connecticut income taxes. Accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America require management to evaluate tax positions taken and recognize a tax liability (or asset) if the University has any uncertain position that more likely than not would not be sustained upon examination by the Internal Revenue Service. Management has analyzed the tax positions taken by the University and has concluded that as of June 30, 2018 and 2017, there are no uncertain tax positions taken or expected to be taken that would require recognition of a liability (or asset) or disclosures in the financial statements. The University is subject to routine audits by taxing jurisdictions; however, there are currently no audits for any tax periods in progress.
