We offer one-on-one tutoring, provided by community volunteers, to students requesting help with their classes. In 2018, 88 tutors volunteered more than 3,000 hours and assisted 112 students. Schedule I, Part I, Line 2 The non cash scholarships are handled through the bookstore or admin office of the community college. Students are registered with Upward Scholars and provide their account number when they need books, parking passes and food vouchers. The school sends a bill to Upward Scholars and we reimburse the school directly. Bus passes are purchased by Upward Scholars staff and made available to students. Cash scholarships are monitored as follows; Speakers Bureau- paid after a student gives a talk about their experience. Car stipend- the two students who receive this award are required to send a picture with themselves and the car. Completer awards- given to students who complete their studies and submit documentation showing this. Gas allowance and books & parking- reimbursed directly to students after they submit receipts.
