These monies and current contributions pay for monitoring, management and improvements on conservation easements. Monitoring is always stipulated in contracts. As the easements are under stewardship only, with no actual ownership, no substantive costs are capitalized and included in the Statement of Financial Position (Conservation easements are carried on the Statement of Financial Position at $1.00 each for fiscal visibility purposes). The footnote in the audited financial statements states," The Trust owns and manages several conservation easements, which are not reflected on the balance sheet due to a lack of future economic value."
