<Desc>Messaging & Media: Sojourners (www.sojo.net) broadens the public dialogue in the United States regarding the intersection of faith, public life and culture. Sojourners articulates a strong moral and religious imperative behind more just and responsible policies. This is done through both national media and our own media platforms (Sojourners magazine, social media, and our digital platforms), and through speaking tours and interviews of Sojourners' president Jim Wallis and other staff. Our digital publication is among the most read Christian social justice publications. 5 million people from more than 220 countries and territories visited Sojourners' website in the last year. Our president Jim Wallis also speaks across the country and around the world. We offer analysis, news and commentary on current issues and events, and we produce a number of additional electronic and print resources for pastors and faith leaders.</Desc>

<Desc>Mobilization/Organizing Policy: For 47 years, Sojourners has been a connecting point for people of faith in this country and globally. Sojourners is bringing people together--even across traditional political and theological divides--to find real solutions to some of the most significant concerns of our time. Our focus on the common good and finding common ground based on shared values allows us to transcend the usual ideological debates. In FY18, our key issues included poverty and inequalities, women and girls, racial justice, war and peace, immigration reform, welcoming refugees, and the environment, among other concerns.</Desc>

<Desc>Education Resources: The Sojourners Fellowship Program currently in its 35th year is a yearlong educational program that combines full-time jobs in our office with an opportunity to live in an intentional Christian community. Fellows work throughout Sojourners, helping staff lead actions, vigils, protests, and our annual Summit. They have the opportunity to write for our online and print publications. Between eight and ten fellows are selected into the program each year. Sojourners also sells and provides educational resources. All resources are mission-related. We create and distribute faith-based educational materials about poverty, the environment, racial justice, interfaith understanding, women and girls, war and peace, and a range of other issues. Resources are available on our website sojo.net.</Desc>

<ExplanationTxt>Please see Schedule O, Part VI, for more about the executive compensation process. The following important points should also be noted: 1. For more than 40 years, 100% of the Honoria from each and every one of Jim Wallis's speaking engagements has gone, not to Jim Wallis himself, but directly from the hosting organization to Sojourners. This Sojourners revenue, generated by Jim Wallis's speaking engagements, sustains our work and makes a major six-figure contribution to our revenue year after year. 2.Over 44 years of working at Sojourners, Wallis's salary averaged near subsistence level, for many years far less than other members of his organization by design, and far less than the honoraria revenue he generated year after year. 3. The standards the board chose for all Sojourners organizational salaries are based on comparable market rates in Washington, DC for non-profit organizations based on position, size of organization, and years of experience. 4. Only in the past few years, with Wallis in his sixties, did the Sojourners board decide it wanted to increase his salary to compensate for years of underpayment and to create a basic retirement plan for him and his family. 5. The board also noted that the value of Jim's public profile, global credibility, and access to many leaders in public life is priceless. 6. As required by law, total compensation reported here includes, among other things, the cost of health insurance (an employer-paid benefit provided to all Sojourner's staff), and contributions for retirement and life insurance. Jim's actual salary for Fiscal Year ending June 30, 2018 was $195,000.</ExplanationTxt>

<ExplanationTxt>The salary and benefits of the President are reviewed annually by an independent committee of the Board of Directors based on market data for similar positions in the Washington DC area. The committee meets in executive session and therefore no minutes are maintained for these meetings. However, the decisions reached by the compensation committee are memorialized in a compensation agreement between the organization and the President which details all compensation and fringe benefits to be received in the upcoming year. Key employees and compensated officers of the corporation are subject to the salary administration system of the organization as are all other employees. The salary ranges for each position were determined through market based salary surveys for nonprofits of similar size and scope. Employees' pay is maintained within these market based ranges and subject to annual review and with a possibility of merit increase. Salary administration is managed by the Chief Executive Officer and the Vice President for Human Resources. All salary decisions are documented in the employees personnel file.
