There were 15 groups in 2918 varying in size and reaching approximately 600 women. Many of the groups are producing products for sale in the community.Assistance was provided for needs identified in the local community such as homes that were damaged or destroyed during the rainy season, local churches in need of repair and health and welfare.All of the 8 wells that were previously drilled in Boneza are working well and another water project was completed in 2018. Nearly 70% of the population of Boneza now has access to clean water. Villagers are trained on the importance of keeping the well clean and maintained.The organization continues to reach out to the community through chapel programs held every Friday at Kivu Hills Academy and conducting conferences and trainings for the pastors and local leaders. The school library is open to the community and English classes are being offered to other local teachers.A community center/sports arena was under construction and will be completed in 2019. Called the Valmark Arena, it will facilitate sports, community events and a small medical clinic and offices. 102904 102904 Education:The preschools continue to grow in numbers serving over 300 of the poorest children in the region free of cost. The "Bowl of Porridge" continues to be an important nutritional part of the day along with lessons in numbers, letters and English language. The preschools are preparing the children for success when they attend elementary school.The third class of students of Kivu Hills Academy enrolled in 2018 and the school served 140 students of which 35% were girls. This is an important achievement as girls culturally do not receive training or employment in the trades.In addition to the trade of plumbing, electricity, carpentry, masonry and computer science the school added tourism and brick making to the curriculum with a fully equipped workshop. With their new skills, the students are developing student run enterprises to help the school become self-sustainable. They have opened a bakery and photo and print shop. The school is fully accredited by the government as a Technical Education and Training (TVET) school and has been recognized as an outstanding program in the country.Phase II of KHA was completed in 2018 adding 3 additional blocks of classrooms, workshop and septic system. Construction for the school kitchen is underway and furnishings and equipment have been purchased. The dining room will hold up to 400 people and provide meals for the students, staff and events in Valmark Arena.
