APFE is a 501(c)(3) organization that was founded in 1981 to provide a vehicle for the active participation of Atlanta-area businesses and the larger community in supporting APS. PURPOSE The APFE organization is based on the belief that businesses and communities that are actively involved in the school system have a deeper understanding of what is needed in order to make a positive difference in the lives of Atlantas school children. APFEs purpose is to work in concert with the APS Office of Partnerships and Development and act as a fiscal agent for community involvement and direct financial support of public education in Atlanta. WHAT WE BELIEVE APFE believes that an educated workforce is the key to our citys economic growth. It also believes that a collective effort is needed to build a strong public school system to provide a quality education to prepare all students for college and career. APFE believes that the APS cannot do it alone and exists to leverage the strength of the corporate community in Atlanta to offer solutions for APS unmet strategic priorities geared toward improving student achievement. LEADERSHIP APFE is governed by a Board of Advisors consisting of representatives from Atlantas business, civic, philanthropic and education communities. The APFE Advisory Board is responsible for monitoring APFEs operations and recommending resources and procedures that will ensure effective and fiscally sound programs and operations, while also providing leadership and visioning advice. APFES ROLE AS A FISCAL AGENT APFE is comprised of community members, business representatives and civic leaders who work together to enrich APS. Supporting the district or a school through APFE allows APS leadership access to additional support and partnerships with external stakeholders to better execute on its strategic plan. APFE offers the Atlanta-area business community and various nonprofit, civic, higher-education, religious, social, and professional organizations the best opportunity to directly strengthen their commitments to public education. APFE acts as a pass-thru or fiscal agent for APS, so organizations can make charitable donations to APS schools and receive a tax deduction (EIN is 58-1463137). GENERAL Program This program allows funders to donate to specific schools and district initiatives. Some examples of the funds in this program include supporting teacher appreciation, behavior incentives and professional development for staff. Corporate Partnership This initiative supports two schools in the APS South Atlanta Cluster, Hutchinson and Dobbs, though generous donations from Delta Air Lines. Literacy Program The Literacy Program is a training program for APS teachers (K-5) on Orton GIllingham strategies, generously supported by the Chick fil A Foundation and the College Football Playoff Foundation. Back to School Bash Held in July, the APS Back-to-School Bash is the school districts flagship event. All APS students and their families are invited to come together to kick off the school year on a positive note. This fun-filled day includes free health screenings, information from community agencies, educational resources, backpacks and school supplies. Each year, thousands of families attend. APyeS! AWARDS The APyeS! Awards banquet celebrates excellence through recognition of the districts finest employees. In addition to Teacher of the Year, many others who inspire the hope of students are recognized, including support staff and partners. State of the District Address The annual State of the District address is the premiere opportunity for APS Superintendent Meria J. Carstarphen to share an update on the strategic direction of the school district with the public. The State of the District showcases talented APS students and brings together business and civic leaders, parents, APS alumni and staff. Through this presentation, APS tells the story of its journey of transformation and highlights district priorities that promise an exciting new future for our students, families and school communities. APS Talent Strategy: APS is focused on recruiting and retaining the best talent, which includes strategies to continually develop, recognize and compensate staff. Our desired outcome is an energized and inspired team of highly engaged employees. Whole Child Development Fund: A pool of resources to enhance APS work to educate the whole child and provide students with experiential learning opportunities to supplement teaching and learning in all subject areas. The fund supports enrichment activities for students such as field trips, summer programming and cultural experiences. It also provides critical needs for students including uniforms, MARTA cards, and weekend food backpacks for high-need families.
