Installation of Aquaponics Lab and implementation of programming at Walter G. Byers School. Implementation of 8-week Aquaponics Course at Stonewall Jackson Youth Development Center. Partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools established to provide tasting events at Oakhurst STEAM Academy. Two tasting events were held for 80 students. Contract agreement established with the Berkshire Education and Correction Services in Pittsfield, MA to establish a commercial scale Aquaponics Lab to provide job training and STEM education to inmates while growing food to be used in the jail cafeteria and distributed within the community. Three of the directors/employees of 101 Gardens (Fleming, Oliphant Thompson) were also officers 100 Gardens, LLC. The formation of 100 Gardens, LLC predated the formation of 101 Gardens and was created to sign a lease and purchase option on facilities for the benefit of 101 Gardens. Contrary to the lease obligations, the owner of the property did not maintain the roof. All demands to the owner to maintain the roof were refused. The deteriorating condition of the building prohibited successful sub-lessing to other tenants to the extent needed to cover the full lease obligations. In order to protect the purchase option, 101 Gardens loaned funds to 100 Gardens, LLC. to cover the balance of lease commitments. Third party funding was arranged to execute the purchase option and give 101 Gardens free or below market use of space. The landlord subsequently refused to honor the purchase option. 101 Gardens vacated the property and action to enforce the lease and purchase option was deemed economically unsound.. 100 Gardens LLC had no employees, paid no compensation or distribution to officers, had no other business activity and was dissolved in 2018. The loan was written off in 2018.
