We mobilized 1,159 volunteers to remove 32 tons of trash and tires from the watershed, recycling 2.5 tons. In addition, we engaged 348 people on the water for a paddling experience to see firsthand the river resource. Hundreds more attended our river, film and music festivals to celebrate the river and inspire environmental stewardship. Additionally, we distributed 598 rain barrels many having accompanied a workshop to learn about water supply and water conservation themes. We also trained 26 interns through the course of the year. 951490 In 2018, the second largest program area was water monitoring, which encompasses our urban stream monitoring as well as river and lake water quality testing. Through our Neighborhood Water Watch program we tested and analyzed 4,586 water samples and identified and stopped 12 major sewer spills. We also collected and processed 107 lake samples for nutrient levels, and 150 river samples for bacteria pollution in the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. CRK also monitors compliance with stormwater rules at various industrial facilities. In 2018, we investigated 207 industrial facilities using a custom developed mapping program. In addition, we developed a low cost, remote water quality monitor system that relays data in real time.
