We are a nonpartisan statewide multi-racial civic engagement organization made up of on-the-ground community partners in urban, suburban and rural communities throughout the state building a movement of young voters of color. Power California contacted 180,598 young voters statewide throughout 2018, contacting 130,000 during the 2018 midterm elections with 60,655 turning out to vote. Power California also uses art, stories, and other cultural and communications strategies to shift public will toward embracing the rich diversity of California and more equitable and just outcomes for all. We work with artists and a community of creatives to engage communities and help elevate the voices of underrepresented Californians. By merging art, culture, and politics we are able to get young people excited about participating in our democracy and gets them ready to vote. In 2018, we used music, screen printing, mural painting at our events to podcasts, music tapes and videos distributed through social media to educate and inform young people about the political process, such as how to vote by mail, as well as uplifted important community issues and youth voices. We contacted 400,000 young voters of color through targeted social media to educate young people about the election. We had over 85 media placements statewide across all major outlets with a 430,000 estimated coverage view and 10,400 social media shares. We launched our statewide campaign "Walkout, Organize, Vote," a statewide campaign mobilizing thousands of young people of color on gun violence and developed the Racial Justice Framework for talking about Gun Violence and School Safety.
