This program engages all students including English Language Learners and students with special needs. Students work collaboratively and creatively with their peers while engaging in high-level thinking as they create, perform, respond to, and make connections to their dances inspired by classroom content. Teachers participate in our "Introduction to Dance Integration" workshop prior to the start of each residency, and participate alongside their students throughout the residency as our teaching artists lead lessons. The grant funds funded training and paying teaching artists, providing professional development for classroom teachers, researching and developing new measurement tools, administrative costs related to the program, and classroom supplies, including BrainDance posters to be given to classroom teachers. City of Alexandria 301 King Street Alexandria VA 22314 77976 Purchase price of playground equipment Purchase of playground equipment The purpose of the grant was to provide equipment for a new playground built at Four Mile Run Park in the Arlandria neighborhood of Alexandria. Arlandria is a neighborhood with the highest percentage of children in Alexandria but it lacks safe, accessible places for kids and families to play. Open to everyone, this playground is sure to be an indispensible community space. On top of having fun and getting active, kids are honing essential social, emotional, and cognitive skills, all key for community and classroom success. 3 Part I, Line 2: RunningBrooke gives priority to nonprofit organizations that serve children in the City of Alexandria and are at-risk and underserved. To make the greatest impact possible, we consider programs that meet the following criteria: 1) Use exercise and/or movement before, during or after school to activate children's brains to improve scholastic performance. 2) Have articulated measurable outcomes consistent with our focus area. While we prioritize application from organizations who meet the above criteria, consideration will also be given to other groups and movement programs whose outcomes are measured by an increase in positive attitude, focus, and confidence. Grant requests are considered by a panel of judges based on the above criteria. The grant monies are to be used exclusively for the purpose stated in the proposal, and recipients must be willing to schedule site visits with RunningBrooke representatives. Midterm reports are due on July 15th. Final reports are due by December 31st. All reports, receipts and records are securely kept at the RunningBrooke office.
