Palliative care does not replace treatment of an illness; the goal is to ease and prevent suffering and improve quality of life for both patient and family members. Along with symptom management, palliative care can facilitate discussions with patients and families concerning prognosis and goal planning. Palliative care may occur while you receive treatments for your illness. This service is offers preventive and specialty care in the comfort of a patient's home for people who have difficulty leaving their homes for clinic appointments. In 2019, Red River Primary Care served 312 patients. 431004 0 7361 Bereavement & community support: the death of a loved one is one of the most stressful life events a person can experience, whether the death is expected or not. Hospice of the Red River Valley is committed to providing a robust bereavement program - not only to family members of the individuals we care for, but also for community members. Hospice of the Red River Valley's bereavement services are offered free of charge to anyone who has lost a loved one through death, whether they had hospice services or not. In 2019, Hospice of the Red River Valley's bereavement program served 1,918 new clients, facilitated 125 group sessions with 656 individuals attending, mailed out in excess of 9,437 bereavement support mailings, provided in-school grief support and presentations to more than 222 students and 90 faculty and developed new classes which provided a creative outlet for grief. 0 0 0 As the area's leading provider of end-of-life care and education, we have an ongoing commitment and responsibility to give back to the community by providing extensive outreach and education. Our programs for health care professionals, including our own staff members, are designed to improve care of those with terminal illnesses and those experiencing grief. Our programs for the public are tailored to assist individuals who are coping with issues of caregiving, terminal illness and grief. Educational topics include advance care planning, hospice care, pain and symptom management, palliative care, grief and loss, and more. In addition to speaking to groups, Hospice of the Red River Valley hosts lunch and learn events and advance care training seminars for health care professionals. These opportunities offer much needed and valued continuing education units for area social workers and nurses. In 2019, we reached more than 5,000 individuals through presentations to churches, service clubs, fraternal organizations, and community and health care organizations.
