Using decades of experience in community building, we accelerate the speed of change for new community leaders. FRI works behind the scenes to ensure our partners are successful in fulfilling their missions. 2312 0 8000 Financial Services/Education: For the past 15 years we have provided support for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Financial Education Network Literacy Programs to 13,860 individuals and families, and have kept more than $24 MM in tax refunds in the community. 68% of our families are Hispanic, with 50% speaking Spanish at home, 14% are African American, 8% Asian, and 10% White. In 2019, we served 1,624 families and returned $2.9 MM to community residents. 43106 0 33228 Communication: FRI has 93,000 constituents, 2000 unique businesses, 50 apartment communities, 230 faith communities, and 37 neighborhood associations to keep informed. Multiple communication venues such as a semi-annual news magazine, 2 x per month electronic newsletter, direct mail, robo calls, and social media platforms reach our broad audience. Other venues include a winter and fall town hall meeting as well as Community Fairs. 36619 0 20674 Economic Development: Over the past 21 years - FRI has advocated for and obtained $40MM in city bond funds for infrastructure, flood mitigation, a library, a neighborhood park, and land for a community/recreation center (CENTER). Our dedicated team of volunteers has facilitated over $354MM in economic development in the form of affordable, middle, and high income housing and retail. On the horizon is the Trinity Forest Spine and Ash Creek Trails that will connect to our new White Rock Hills Park. The Organization is not aware of any activities that would jeopardize its tax-exempt status. As of December 31, 2019, the Organization believes that it has appropriate support for any tax positions taken, and as such, has no uncertain tax positions that qualify for either recognition or disclosure in the financial statements. The organization is subject to filing a 990 Information return annually. In addition, a 990T tax return must be filed with the Internal Revenue Service for unrelated business income. With few exceptions, Federal information returns filed prior to 2016 for the Organization are no longer subject to examination by tax authorities. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b The Executive Director and Treasurer reviews the 990 prior to filing by doing the following: reviewing the yes/no answers given on the 990 form for accuracy, cross referencing the financial numbers to the financial statements, and corroborating other information given on the form based on first-hand knowledge of the organization. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c Each board member and key employee is given a copy of the conflict of interest policy. On an annual basis major business relationships are reviewed for any possible conflicts of interest transactions. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15 The governing body reviews and approves compensation package for the Executive Director. Any board member with a conflict of interest with respect to the compensation in question is not allowed to participate in the deliberations. All documents used to justify the compensation package given, notes of discussions conducted, and final decisions made are maintained within the minutes of meetings held.
