Vision: AALEAD envisions a United States in which low-income and underserved Asian Pacific American youth, and youth of all backgrounds, are equipped with the tools and opportunities to define themselves and their own futures. 0 0 568802 After School Program: The AALEAD After School Program provides academic support resources including support in the process for selecting a middle/high school and college process a safe and supportive space for shaping identity, and opportunities for leadership and civic engagement. AALEAD serves youth after school through the following programs: DC Elementary School, DC Middle & High School, MD Middle School, MD High School, VA Middle School, and VA High School Programs. In FY19, AALEAD supported 205 youth at 12 public schools and 2 public library sites. See Schedule O for continuation 49500 Summer Program: The AALEAD Summer Program provides youth more opportunities to activities, events, community engagement, and leadership development. The summer leverages a youth-to-youth mentoring model where youth take ownership of their AALEAD Summer Program by being a part of the planning and facilitating process. High School youth are given the opportunity to facilitate programming for middle school youth. In FY19, 87 youth were supported across the DC area and youth completed projects that included topics of gentrification, bullying, and microaggressions. 116622 Mentoring: The AALEAD Mentoring Program connects youth with adults to form relationships that provide youth with a safe avenue to express their feelings and frustrations, improve their self-esteem, foster positive self-identity, give youth opportunities to explore new interests and develop hobbies, and motivate them to pursue higher education and prepare them for careers. The Mentoring Program supports youth with a mentor and first generation college students with a career coach. There was a shortage in government funding and AALEAD decided to self-fund the VA program for three years. AALEAD was able to support the VA program from utilizing its reserved funds during the past 3 years. Fiscal year ended 2019 was the last of the three-year self-funding plan. Form 990, Part III, Line 4a, After School Program: (continued) There were over 350 workshops offered that connected youth with resources to succeed academically and prepare for college/future careers; gave youth the tools to develop pride in themselves and where they are from; and gave youth every opportunity to help develop skills and experiences as leaders. 100% of youth transitioned to the next grade level; 92% of youth said they learned more about the Asian American community, 83% of youth said they became more comfortable sharing and expressing their ethnic/cultural background and 80% said they knew what mental health is and had the tools to manage stress and their emotions. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11b The board treasurer reviews the 990 in detail and makes it available to all board members prior to filing. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c Each director and officer is required to review a copy of the conflict of interest policy, which requires each person to disclose any relationships, position or circumstances in which he or she believes could contribute to a conflict. Following full disclosure of a possible conflict of interest, the Board of Directers determines whether a conflict of interest exists and, if so the Board votes to authorize or reject the transaction or take any other action deemed necessary to address the conflict and protect AALEAD's best interests. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15 The process for determining the Executive Director's compensation involves the completion by the entire board of a detailed evaluation and interviews of key staff and stakeholders. This performance assessment and review of market compensation data from similar organizations is then examined by an Executive Committee of the Board, which proposes a compensation level that must be approved by the entire board. Other employees' compensation is determined by the Executive Director with input and advice from the Board.
