Other individuals in the community who are not associated with these organizations or the legal community also provide donations for the purchase of new clothing and blankets. Each participating entity collects used clothing, toiletries, blankets, and related items during the first weekend of December. Volunteers sort these donated items and assist in delivering these items to homeless support organizations in the Washington, DC area. The entire process occurs during a three-day weekend. The expenses listed here include the value of goods that GFTH distributed during the used clothing drive. Volunteers sampled 7% of the bags at the clothing drive and leveraged methodology and values from commercially available tax-valuation software to estimate the value of bags across all donation categories (men's coats, women's pants, etc.). Based on these procedures, GFTH assigned each donation category an approximate average value per bag.
