This executive also managed the tax return preparation process and made sure all returns were timely filed.In the spring of 2018, this executive was diagnosed with a recurrence of a cancer illness and immediately began treatment that required the executive to take a temporary leave. All expectations were that the executive would recover and return to work.Tragically, the executive never returned and passed away in 2019.The trustee was under the impression that the 2017 return for the taxpayer had been filed prior to the financial executive taking a leave of absence. Recently, when compiling the information necessary to prepare and file the taxpayer's 2018 return, the Trustee learned that in fact the 2017 return had not been filed. The trustee immediately gathered all available information together this week and had the 2017 return prepared and filed.Based on the foregoing information, taxpayer believes there is reasonable cause for the late filing of this return and requests that no penalties be assessed.
