In FY19, 100% of graduating Academy preschoolers were assessed as kindergarten ready, and 96% of children working with an Early Childhood Parent Advocate demonstrated developmentally appropriate communication, motor, and social interaction skills. A survey of kindergarten teachers at Y.E. Smith Elementary found that children with an Early Childhood Parent Advocate had better reading skills when leaving kindergarten than children without an Advocate. EDCI Middle Years Family Advocates facilitate the parent-teacher-school connection for families, with a strong focus on empowering parents to become effective advocates for their childrens educational success. In FY19, three EDCI Family Advocates worked alongside families to connect them to community resources, provide behavioral and educational supports, and create positive home environments. 71319 Advocate Program: The Advocate program is designed to help middle school and high school students develop critical academic and social skills necessary for school success. The Youth Advocates facilitate communication between home and school, provide in-school support to students, and connect youth and families to programs within the EDCI pipeline. The program also has a Spring Break camp. Students participate in interactive workshops related to science, technology, education, arts, and math topics and go on field trips. STEAM Spring Break is a one-week, full day camps for elementary school students providing workshops and field trips with STEAM themes. In FY19 over 50 youth participated.
