Our small staff of legal and policy advocates and educators, working with leading area scientists and experts, worked to keep our streams and springs clean and flowing, and protect our vulnerable water resources and endangered species habitats from highway expansion projects, pumping projects, and proposed municipal wastewater discharges, among other threats. We defended the Save our Springs Ordinance, and supported local policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the increased flooding, erosion, drought, and heat that comes with global warming. In 2019 we also worked to improve and expand our Barton Springs University (BSU) water education programs to reach more high school and college students and new citizens across the region. These programs include Barton Springs 101 presentations in schools, snorkel tours of Barton Springs and Barton Creek, and hikes on the greenbelt. The BSU programs feature a full day of outdoor learning at Barton Springs led by water experts from academia, governmental agencies, conservation groups and the private sector.
