Our preservation of restored 19th century houses, artifacts, archival and oral history collections offers a unique place to learn about our history, heritage, and culture. Through partnership with surrounding school districts we offer quality "hands-on and minds-on" education tours and programs to over 16,000 students and many other visitors throughout southern California. we encourage our visitors to hold history in their hands because the tangible connections create an everlasting learning experience. the students, guided by trained instructors, participate in a wide range of inclusive programs that meet current California department of california education standards in social studies, English, performing arts and sciences. this year we expanded our newest program for 5th grade students that meets social studies and science standards. we received wonderful feedback from teachers about the hands-on learning experience for their students. we also launched a new kindergarten-2nd grade program in our nature preserve, called d.i.r.t. (delicious, indigenous, riparian, treats) which connects students to their food systems and natural environment. we offer additional preschool early literacy programs, a children's garden, and agricultural and ecological learning opportunities. this year we also began our strategic vision to offer programs for secondary sturdents. We hosted high school students to learn about organizational management, docenting, and archival methodology. We had high school students go through a cultural diversity program to teach about personal history. we developed a cultural arts mural program for local youth. these programs have been well received and achknoledged by local government leaders. our public hours continue to grow, serving more community members and offering additional services. This year we included natural history hikes throughout our 12 acre property to our visitors. we also curated a couple of new exhibitions. we continue to develop partnerships with outside organizations who care about our mission. We have over 30 partnerships and they continue to grow. our gospel swamp natural area, which covers about 4 acres of property, is one of the few places in central orange county that offers open space to learn about our natural history and ecology. we continue to offer our volunteer naturalist program and build community ambassadors for environmental stewardship. We have 2 federally protected wetlands in our gospel swamp. we continue with our native plant restoration projects and have restoration days open every month of the year. Many high school, college, local corporations and other community groups assist in our restoration days.
