This is required due to legislation at the state level which severely limits the number of facilities where abortions may be performed in Texas; the great distances involved in order to receive services; and the lack of necessary financial resources available to these individuals which are necessary in order to undertake the journey. For the time period covered by this return our organization provided transportation for approximately 400 clients who would not have otherwise been able to receive these medical services. Our organization provided clients who must travel long distances with overnight accommodations at locations near abortion clinics. This is necessary in order to meet requirements under state law which mandates a 24 hour waiting period be observed in order to receive the medical services of abortion.
