BBGS is legally appointed by the courts to serve as the legal guardian of incapacitated adults when no family member is willing or qualified to serve as his/her legal guardian. Our role is to ensure the overall well being of the person under our guardianship by monitoring the quality of care they receive and making the best decisions for their housing, medical, clothing, nutritional and other needs. The avg. cost for a family to obtain guardianship is $2500. This is cost prohibitive for many families. To qualify for this program, a family must submit an application and provide proof of income. BBGS hosts free regular information sessions in the community to help educate families about obtaining legal guardianship of an incapacitated loved one. Why guardianship may be necessary, the steps involved in obtaining guardianship, a guardian's role, and alternatives to guardianship is explained during these sessions. BBGS also discusses the Guardianship Assistance Program available and how families can apply. Additionally, BBGS hired a full time care manager in January 2014 with approval from the Board of Directors.
