<MissionDesc>As the tourism marketing agency for the City of Aberdeen, our mission is to enhance the economic well-being of the Aberdeen region by increasing the amount of visitor and meeting activity that occurs in the area.</MissionDesc>

<Desc>The Aberdeen Area Convention & Visitors Bureau markets the City of Aberdeen to visitors at trade shows, travel shows, in print advertising, digital marketing, Internet web sites (www.VisitAberdeenSD.com and www.HuntFishSD.com), social media, special events and co-op marketing with regional and state tourism organizations. The Aberdeen Area Convention & Visitors Bureau provides many services that no other organization in Aberdeen does. The CVB bids on conventions and events and provides services to these groups including, but not limited to, personalized name badges, visitor welcome packets, coupons, maps, weather updates, registration staff assistance, site location selection, official City welcomes, hospitality breaks, event sponsorship and spouse tours. In addition, the CVB coordinates volunteers for many events and hosts the hospitality rooms for the SDHSAA State Tournament events. In 2020, the CVB coordinated over 65 volunteer hours with our core group of volunteers for a total value of $18,551 (Independent Sector Report). The Aberdeen Area Convention & Visitors Bureau operates two Visitor Information Centers, one in our main office at 506 S Main St, Suite 1 and one in the Visitor Center at Storybook Land. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic in 2020, the Aberdeen Area Convention & Visitors Bureau suspended employment of the four seasonal staff and 16 volunteer workers at the Storybook Land Visitor Center. The Aberdeen Area Convention & Visitors Bureau direct staff ordered and stocked both centers with literature and assisted visitors. We also provide the SD State Information Centers with thousands of the official Aberdeen Community Guide which we develop each year. The official Aberdeen Guide is also made available to other organizations and businesses such as the Downtown Association, Chamber, ADC, Aberdeen Regional Airport, library, city offices, lodging facilities and other Aberdeen businesses to be used in their marketing and recruiting efforts. The Aberdeen Area Convention & Visitors Bureau is the organization that coordinates requests for information about our city and attractions. In 2020 we mailed or distributed 21,852 requests for information from our ad placements, our websites, travel show attendance, social media, digital marketing and by phone. The CVB will continue to track our requests for information by location and promotion/ad to determine effectiveness and response rate. The CVB currently maintains a database of 917 conventions/reunions/group tours. We continue to revamp the database to be more efficient on our end. This represented some classifications and numerous updates to make the process easier to track. We continue to contact/update each of these groups in 2020 depending upon their meeting date. We have set a goal to research and be more accountable on tracking the economic impact of events held in Aberdeen. The Aberdeen Area Convention & Visitors Bureau is proud to play a role in the economic growth, vitality, and quality of life in Aberdeen. We will continue to work hard to showcase Aberdeen as a great place to visit, to play and to stay.</Desc>

<ExplanationTxt>The Organization is organized as a South Dakota nonprofit corporation and is exempt from federal income taxes under Section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Organization is required to file a Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax (Form 990) with the IRS. In addition, the Organization is subject to income tax on net income that is derived from business activities that are unrelated to their exempt purposes. Aberdeen Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Inc., has determined that it does not owe unrelated business income tax for the years ended December 31, 2020 and 2019 due to net losses related to the non-exempt activities. The Organization has filed an Exempt Organization Business Income Tax Return (Form 990-T) with the IRS. The Organization believes that it has appropriate support for any tax positions taken affecting its annual filing requirements and, as such, does not have any uncertain tax positions that are material to the financial statements. The Organization would recognize future accrued interest and penalties related to unrecognized tax benefits and liabilities in income tax expense if such interest and penalties are incurred.</ExplanationTxt>
