We focused on improving the health of children in Zambia and surrounding nations by developing, disseminating, and publicizing curricula which increase resilience and decrease unhealthy alcohol and drug use among youth and those who care for them. We worked with Kin Media, LLC to produce a documentary film showing the impact of these efforts in Lusaka (Zambias capital city) and developed a website at www.growglobalresilience.com. We worked with trained community volunteers and provided materials for teaching resilience and recovery in Lusaka, Sinda, and other key communities across Zambia. We translated curriculum materials into African languages such as Swahili, Bemba, and Chichewa, and leaders expanded activities into Mozambique, Malawi, Angola, and Tanzania. We provided weekly online coaching for African leaders who spearhead these efforts. Several hundred self-sustaining resilience and recovery groups are now functioning in these five nations.
