Over the past year, the Brent's Place response to COVID-19 has been dynamic and collaborative, thoughtfully responding to the changing landscape of the pandemic, evolving state guidelines, and recommendations from leading medical experts. These efforts -- which have followed a multi-tiered plan developed with the guidance of the Brent's Place Medical Advisory Committee, partnering hospitals, and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment -- will continueSee Schedule O for continuation.for the foreseeable future as each aspect of operations is evaluated and modified on an ongoing basis to best serve and protect resident families. Our Safe-Clean requirements, which were developed collaboratively with Children's Hospital Colorado many years ago, were pressure-tested during 2020 and made it possible for Brent's Place to remain open throughout the year. We welcomed 251 families, who traveled from across the Rocky Mountain region and beyond, and provided 16,650 room nights and over 600 support programs/services. Support Programs: While some aspects of programming have continued unchanged, the COVID-19 pandemic affected how Brent's Place approached a significant portion of support activities in order to prioritize health and safety. We are extremely proud of the flexibility, innovation, and compassion these efforts displayed. Current support programs include: - A comforting and convenient meal program. This includes three weekly homemade meals, welcome food boxes, grocery gift cards, and 24-7 access to an expanded food pantry. Currently, as part of the organization's COVID-19 precautions, all meals are delivered by staff members to private family apartments. Hospital meal delivery and shared community meals in common spaces have been temporarily paused. Staff members are now available to shop for groceries for resident families who cannot do so on their own safely. - Educational resources for young patients and their siblings. - Community outings and custom family outings, once a mainstay of respite care offerings, are not currently available. Brent's Place looks forward to reintroducing this element of programming when it is safe to do so.- Virtual town hall meetings. These periodic dialogues are designed to foster community and protect residents' mental health during this challenging time. - In-house activities, reconfigured in order to remain accessible within the new safety guidelines and reflect the changing needs patients and caregivers experienced during the ongoing pandemic. In order to keep resident families entertained while access to shared spaces on campus are restricted, Brent's Place is now providing a customized selection of arts and crafts, games, sporting equipment, activities, movies and snacks to families in their private apartments. Brent's Place staff have also initiated several larger scale community art projects to increase the sense of community among resident families, including a painted rock garden that individuals may participate in at their own pace and a pumpkin patch mural craft that each resident could contribute to. Music therapy is now accessible to any interested resident. Families may participate virtually in group activities with other Brent's Place residents, including arts and crafts projects, game nights and story time. - Holiday and birthday celebrations. These currently-virtual events include meals and gifts that have been hand-selected based on individual wishes. Plans for virtual princess or superhero visits are underway.- Emotional support that helps each member of the family cope with everyday challenges. This includes access to a clinical psychologist and chaplain.During a year like no other, with countless challenges posed by the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, Brent's Place was able to persevere, adapt, and thrive with the support of our many community partners. Brent's Place worked tirelessly to stay true to our mission, remain nimble under rapidly changing circumstances, and keep the specific, unique needs of our vulnerable patients and resident families as the focus of our programming during a time of countless unknowns. Brent Eley Center ("Center") owns the Brent's Place facility in Aurora, Colorado, which is comprised of land and two adjacent buildings - "Founder's House", established in February 2009, and "Tanner's House", established in June 2017.
