SOME HIGHLIGHTS FROM 2020 INCLUDE:1. We distributed 250,000 gallons of emergency bottled water to more than 30,000 people across the Navajo Nation in the first days of the pandemic.2. We distributed more than 650 temporary water storage tanks to Navajo homes without piped connections, which we filled with an expanding network of water trucks; our water delivery efforts reached into 30 new Chapters (communities) on the Navajo Nation, covering 1891 additional sq. miles.2. We developed a contactless suitcase water system that brought clean, hot-and-cold running water to Navajo homes during Covid-19 and began installations.3. We joined 20 other organizations in the Navajo Nation Water Access Coordination Group (WAC-G) to identify, acquire, and advertise safe water sources for tribal homes; we helped 10,300 residents learn where they could find safe, free local water sources during the pandemic using targeted facebook ads.4. After more than two years of research and relationship-building, we launched the Appalachia Water Project in rural West Virginia in partnership with 5 Loaves and 2 Fishes foodbank; we installed a water bottling system system that creates clean drinking water for local families from sunlight and air.5. We hired staff, signed partnership agreements, and completed home surveys in Appalachia to prepare for our 2021 goal: clean, running water for 150+ homes. 171447 EDUCATION AND RESEARCH PROJECTS HELP AMERICANS FORM A DEEP AND LASTING CONNECTION TO THE WATER WE OFTEN TAKE FOR GRANTED. SOME HIGHLIGHTS FROM 2020 INCLUDE:1. Our 2019 report, "CLOSING THE WATER ACCESS GAP IN THE UNITED STATES: AN ACTION PLAN", showed that more than 2.2 million Americans still dont have running water; in 2020 we worked to spread the word on that research in more than 70 major news outlets and 41 scholarly journals.2. We made six grants for water and sanitation to impacted communities around the country identified by the "Closing the Water Access Gap" report.3. We launched two new research projects: A. a study that measures the economic impact of giving a household access to running water and sanitation, and B. a Decentralized Wastewater Innovation Cohort (DWIC) study to create connections between rural communities piloting innovative solutions to wastewater challengesfrom Alaska to Hawaii to New York; both studies conclude in 2022.4. We gathered signatures from 1258 people on a pledge recognizing that every American has a human right to clean, running water and a working toilet.5. We engaged celebrities, influencers and more than 40,000 Americans online; the cast of the movie Splash (1984) did a table-read; Portugal The Man launched a music video on Indigenous Peoples Day; Erin Brokovitch interviewed our staff, and Neil Young threw a benefit concert from his front porch, among others.6.
