A preventative youth development program that positively impacts girls' social, emotional & physical health. In 2020, despite COVID-19, 773 unique girls (unduplicated) built their resilience in person, virtually and self-led (immediately after shelter at home order in March). Due to generous community donors, the programs are accessible to girls from economically disadvantaged families & historically marginalized or underrepresented racial/ethnic groups with 70% low income families receiving financial support & 69% girls from traditionally under represented ethnic/racial groups. The program combines experiential learning discussions, play activities, and running or moving in small groups out-door or modified curriculum for virtually. Volunteers safely led & mentor the girls for 75 minutes, twice a week. Girls participate in the preventative youth development program that positively impacts their social, mental, emotional and physical health so that they are more resilient. Despite COVID-19 and wild fires, girls were able to participate throughout the entire year. During the spring, we started in-person but quickly adapted to self-led at home. In the Fall, both in-person and virtual curriculum was available. Two volunteer life coaches lead and mentor the girls through the experiential learning discussions, play activities, and running or moving after-school. Girls are provided tools to choose movement over being sedentary, healthy friendships over destructive relationships, joy over sorrow, empathy over fear and positive self-talk over negative self talk. A graduate is better equipped to be resilient and navigate life and avoid the societal trends towards obesity, violence and depression. 0 0 237553 2000 197822 Empower 773 girls (unduplicated) (846 participants) and positively impacted their resilience while maintaining our high level of low income families (70%) & traditionally under-represented ethnic/racial groups (69%). Girls achieved success by completing the 8 (modified in Fall for virtual and safely in person) or 10 week (spring started in person and moved to self led at home) life skill curriculum & empowerment program, a noncompetitive 5K and community impact project. A total of 53 schools were served in Solano & Napa. Thirty schools/parks in Solano from 2 in 2014.
