The maternity wing and operating theatre at Chikwawa Hospital received a 10,000 ltr back-up water system. Nearly 5,000 babies are born at this hospital each year and yet the entire hospital averages approximately 6 hours/day without water. Other Program Services. We work with local organizations to identify schools, villages and health care centers in need of clean water. In 2020, we worked on a multitude of water projects. This included drilling 22 new boreholes (water wells), installing 1 back-up water tank at schools/hospitals, repairing 14 pumps, installing 1 new solar water systems at a school, distributing 40 biosand filters to families in need, and providing borehole maintenance training to communities and schools. Our 2020 projects can be found in 28 schools, 10 villages and 1 hospital. In response to COVID, we distributed 6,000 bars of soap and provided hygiene training.
