As a nonprofit, we are proud to offer in-person & online internships that impact the lives of students and the individuals they are partnered with. Students can work with an attorney on a impending court case, develop anti-terrorism security strategies or partner with a doctor to diagnose patients in sub-Saharan Africa. 0 0 258737 0 Summer Program Accomplishments: In the summer of 2020 and 2021, Leadership Initiatives moved their summer Youth Development Programs to an online format due to COVID-19. Even though the programs were online, students and staff worked to produce tangible results which benefited those in from each program. The International Leadership & Business Internship program hosted fifty-five students who worked in teams with a business owner in Bauchi State, Nigeria The National Security & Intelligence Internship hosted twenty-four students who met with national security experts to learn about the most modern and important security measures taken within the United States. The Advanced Medical & Public Health Internship participants learned from Dr. Aisha Garba, who works as a doctor in Nigeria The Advanced Medical Neuroscience Internship students worked with world-renowned Neuroscience expert Dr. James Giordano The Advanced Law & Trial Internship consisted of ninety students who assisted lawyer Rebecca Bloch of the Law Office of Rebecca Bloch in writing the IRAA motion for an incarcerated client who qualifies for release under the Second Look Amendment Act of 2019. 8900 0 One of Leadership Initiatives' International Internship Programs is our International Law & Advocacy Internship. During the 2020 school year internship, high school students work with Leadership Initiatives and additional nonprofits to raise awareness for various social justice issues that are relevant in Bauchi Students worked on issues such as inadequate education, domestic violence, gender-based violence, sexual harassment, birth registries, corruption, and government accountability, and kidnapping for ransom. In the year 2020, we had 27 teams work on advocacy campaigns and produce interactive work-shops to be put on by our staff in Nigeria and assist in educating the community. 3822 0 In February of 2020, Leadership Initiatives executive staff flew from Washington, D.C. to Bauchi State, Nigeria to meet with their staff and business owners. While there, the staff met with 78 business owners to discuss ways to improve our partnership and gather reports on what was needed. Since then, Leadership Initiatives has incorporated 23 new businesses into our organization.
