The mission is to educate and inspire young people, and through music equip them with life skills for the future. We accomplish this through music education and performance opportunities, as well as life skill mentoring. The opening of the 19th year of the MRC was delayed due to the pandemic and finally went to on-line virtual lessons for the remainder of the year. The MRC hopes to reopen in person when the pandemic recedes. 53272 21431 The AAMC continues to further the arts portion of our mission by providing affordable artist studio spaces at the Amory Annex Art Studios immediately adjacent to the historic Armory. The artists currently at the Annex include blacksmiths, painter, visual artist, several jewelers and a piano repair workshop. The AAMC's public funding percentage fell below 33 1/3% due to an unusually large and generous donation in 2018. That donation was made to the AAMC in order to pay for the structural rehabilitation of a 19,000 sf structural concrete floor that was critical to making Amory safe and usable. That donation allowed the AAMC to utilize a $250 K grant from the Minnesota Historical Society, which was in jeopardy of expiring after a previous developer pulled out of the project. The structural floor rehabilitation project was the biggest building project that the AAMC has undertaken to date, and its completion in the Spring of 2020 positions the Armory well to attract a developer and move forward. The AAMC also continues to pursue preservation of the historic Armory building and in 2020 received a $20K grant from the Minnesota Historical Society for design and bidding documents for reroofing. The goal is to complete the design and then pursue additional funding to replace major sections of roof on the building. The two main arts and educational activities that the AAMC is involved with include the Music Resource Center, a free after-school program for area teenagers, and the Armory Annex Art Studios which provides affordable studio space to area artists. Arts and education are part of the AAMC's mission, and while these activities continued in 2020, both were affected by the covid virus. The MRC program, which was in is 10th year of operation in 2020, receives funding and donations from a number of sources, including load foundations, businesses, individuals, the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council (State funded), the Minnesota State Arts Board, and other charitable organization that fund youth-oriented programs. The MRC also raises money by having fundraising concerts including our Buddy Holly/Winter Dance Party theme events, and our Spring CD Release party and fundraisers where local musicians donate their time and perform along with students. While our Winter Dance Party event well, unfortunately the Spring fundraiser was canceled due to Covid. The Amory Annex Art Studio is currently the home to seven artists or arts organizations. These artists pay rent, which earns the AAMC a modest income. The public can come in and watch the artists work and buy directly from them. The blacksmithing organization at the Armory Annex, called Forging Community, offers classes to the public.
