Mentors and mentees meet twice per week and take part in organized team-building and cooperative games, along with electives that cover health & wellness, academic enrichment, fine arts, community service, and athletics.</Desc>

<Desc>Tutoring Academy - REACH Tutoring Academy provides homework and study support, as well as healthy snack alternatives for its students. This all happens in a safe and predictable environment four times a week. Additionally, students are provided with opportunities to engage in exercise, enriching games, and other electives. This allows for the opportunity to provide intensive and individualized support in the areas of Social Emotional Development, Academic Enrichment, Community Engagement (including Service Projects), and Extracurricular Opportunities. As a result of COVID-19, REACH has begun to offer a hybrid learning academy for our most at risk population. Each week, students are provided with 21-24 hours in a safe work environment, which offers breakfast and lunch. Following the school day, students are given the opportunity for time outdoors through hiking, biking, and more! REACH supplies students with the resources necessary for them to succeed at any level.</Desc>

<FactsAndCircumstancesTestTxt>REACH Newtown is a non-profit organization in Western Connecticut with a mission to Connect Kids and Build Relationships That Change Lives. REACH provided 210 days of free programming to almost 200 children in our community in 2019. REACH provides the children they serve with consistent, supportive, and caring relationships to feel safe, confident, and motivated to succeed throughout elementary, middle, and high school, college, and beyond. Their vision is to connect with and redirect the lives of underserved and underprivileged youth by providing consistent support in a safe, fun and predictable environment. 2020 presented a new set of challenges. When Connecticut shut down REACH continued to offer support by providing school breakfast and lunch through contactless home delivery as well as snack bags with treats, fruit and PPE. We helped our children with their at-home learning by providing technology such as Chromebooks and laptops and our Zoom Tutoring and Mentorship programs thrived. This past July we were able to open our Summer Adventure Camp, implementing safety protocols and staff training to keep all our campers safe. In September when schools went completely remote, we pivoted our REACH Tutoring Academy to an all-day distance learning environment, providing our most vulnerable kids with socially distanced workstations complete with technology and school supplies. In-person staff was here to offer academic support and provide our kids with a safe space and a sense of community.REACH continues to be committed to measure impact through the RBA (Results-Based Accountability) Model, which incorporates accountabilities for both population and performance. This is accomplished by asking the following questions: How Much Did We Do? How Well Did We Do It? Is Anyone Better Off?Reach has created a 3-year strategic plan which addresses our sustainability and gives us an understanding of what our long-term fundraising needs will be and how we will achieve them. Currently Reach receives funding from several diversified streams.- Individual donations- Grants- Foundations- Corporate/Small Business DonationsWe have hired a Director of Development who will be instrumental in helping us to increase our funding and reaching our goals. Reach will be increasing our sustainability through a combination of several strategies: - Building stronger relationships to corporations as well as small local businesses- Work with the Board of Director's to become more effective at donor development and stewardship- Identify current donors who are capable of increasing their giving capacity - Improve our diversity of revenue with innovative ideas to attract more and different donors- Strong plan for collaboration with other non-profits and organizationsReach has a track record of successfully increasing our funding through our donor centric approach and we have doubled the number of individual gifts from 2019 to 2020. Reach believes that our culture of philanthropy combined with a robust fundraising plan will give us the ability to sustain, expand, and scale our programs to effectively serve the community for the long-term.REACH's governing body includes members of the community who represent the broad interests of the public. The REACH Board of Directors include public school teachers and administrators, psychologists, social workers, financial advisors and corporate vice presidents. Some of the other nonprofit organizations that REACH is proud partner with include but are not limited to LOF Adaptive Skiers, Robotics and Beyond, Cullens Youth Association, Empower Leadership, Newtown Public Schools, Danbury Youth Services and The Beardsley Zoo.</FactsAndCircumstancesTestTxt>

<ExplanationTxt>The Executive Director of REACH Newtown Inc. is the principal representative of REACH Newtown Inc., and the person responsible for the efficient operation of the nonprofit. Therefore, it is the desire of the nonprofit to provide a fair yet reasonable and not excessive compensation for the Executive Director. The annual process for determining compensation is as follows: The Executive committee will annually evaluate the Executive Director on his/her performance, and ask for his/her input on matters of performance and compensation. Board Approval - The Executive Board will obtain research and information to make a recommendation to the full board for the compensation (salary and benefits) of the Executive Director based on a review of comparability data. This data may include the following: 1. Salary and benefit compensation studies by independent sources; 2. Written job offers for positions at similar organizations; 3. Documented telephone calls about similar positions at both nonprofit and for-profit organizations; and 4. Information obtained from the IRS Form 990 filings of similar organizations. Concurrent Documentation - To approve the compensation for the Executive Director, the board must document how it reached its decisions, including the data on which it relied, in minutes of the meeting during which the compensation was approved. Independence in Setting Compensation - The Chair of the board of directors, who is a volunteer and not compensated by the nonprofit, will operate independently without undue influence from the Executive Director. No member of the Executive or Human Resources Committee will be a staff member, the relative of a staff member, or have any relationship with staff that could present a conflict of interest.</ExplanationTxt>
